It is the middle of the summer and you’ve rotated your outfits over and over again, to the point that they feel like a uniform.
And who can blame you? Your social calendar is packed. You are sipping cool drinks one night, tasting delicious cuisine another, and barbecuing on the weekends.
Too bad your stripe maxi dress is starting to feel like a favorite pair of pj’s, your white jeans are becoming a light shade of grey, and the strapless sheath has been worn to parties so many times, it now has a nick-name.
You are craving something pretty and new, except you swore that you are done spending for the summer. We got creative and gathered 3 tips give your summer wardrobe an easy uplift.
1. Wear what you own, but in a different way – get creative and wear maxi skirt as a dress, a tube top dress as a skirt, or a stretch cotton skirt as an empire waist top.
Take a cue from Gwynneth Paltrow, who recently wore Gerard Darel maxi skirt as a dress. Cinch it with a thin belt at the waist, like Gwyn did, to accentuate the waist. For comparison, here is January Jones wearing the same piece as a skirt.
2. Transform it with accessories – have a neutral hued dress, top, or pants hanging in your closet? Use it as a canvas and accessorize with eye-catching accessories.
Add a stunning necklace to a simple v-neck top or a dress. It will meta-morph into a glam piece while showing off your superb creative skill.
Sash your white jeans with a brigh hued, Pucci-esque patterned scarf instead of a tired belt. Or use a chain necklace as a belt on a flowy top.
4. Get extra miles with convertible pieces – when all else fails and buying something new is inevitable, consider a convertible dress, skirt, or top. This Free People dress is an excellent example. It doubles up as a dress and a skirt. (Available at Free People and Zappos).
It can also create many other variations when you apply our jewelry and accessories tip (above).
4. Wear fall trends, early - just because you tapped out your summer shopping budget, doesn’t mean you can’t shop for fall.
Upcoming fall trends include high-slit skirts and leather skirts, and can be rocked in style in the summer. Pair them with dashing strappy heels and light fabric tops for ultimate glam. (Take advantage of our Nordstrom Anniversary sale & trends guide, to save on fall trends.)
