When the news of Alexander McQueen death spread over the web almost 2 years ago (he committed suicide on Feb. 12th, 2010, about a week after his mother died), we felt a pang of sadness. The 40 year young visionary designer created futuristic and theatrical pieces that stood out among the sea of designers. Whether it was an alien-like outfit complete with extreme platforms and worn by Lady Gaga or a skull scarf, McQueen had a way of creating signature pieces that drew a cult-like following.
The decision was made that after Alexander McQueen’s death, his label will go on. Sarah Burton, McQueen’s right hand design aide since 1996, was announced as the new creative director of the Alexander McQueen brand. Although Alexander McQueen brand will go on without the designer, we will feel a void not seeing his unique touch and visionary creations.
That’s why when we got an email from theOutnet, letting us know that they are getting in a special and probably one of the last stocks of McQueen’s pieces, created by him we got emotional. The pieces just went online, and there are futuristic dresses, a few skull clutches, and McQueen’s signature scarves. They are going quickly, so act accordingly.
