If you live in high heels and tailored pieces, alternating to casual fashion can be tricky. However, it is the weekend and you will be trolling your kids to a ballet class or soccer class, running after them in the park and getting down and dirty (against your will) in the playground sandbox.
You need an outfit that matches your lifestyle, but want casual style that is both comfortable and chic.
We spend a morning with Daniella who masterfully pulls off casual chic look that fits her outing types. Daniella is a life coach who holds an MBA and is a mom of 3 boys. She is frequently on the go, running errands and taking care of her kids. Daniella’s outfit allowed her to get around quickly, chase after her kids with ease, and sip coffee in a tree shade (when running isn’t required) while looking chic. We even caught a lost dog, but more on that later.
Daniella’s style is military inspired and embodies elements of her origin. She hails from Israel where she served in the army for 2 years(a mandatory requirement). Although she lives in the United States for years, her casual wardrobe continues to show glimpses of military influence and gravitates toward comfort, minimalist selection, and endurance.
We took inspiration from her look and pulled together an comfort chic, military inspired pieces that will elevate the mood of your casual outing.
Pants and Tee – Rock cargo-style pants and skirts, that are both fashionable and comfortable, but make sure they are breathable by selecting pieces in light-weight fabrics such as cotton and linens. Choose grey, green, and khaki hues that are more “dirt friendly” than whites and beiges.
As for tees, go with skin-soft fabrics, eye-catching hues of blues and greens, and roomy fit that will let you raise your arms and catch your toddler going down the slide, without exposing your undergarments.

- Jessica Simpson Pants Cropped ($34)
- Calvin Klein Cargo Pants ($49)
- Splendid distressed striped v-neck tee ($60)
Accessories – Daniella’s accessories work dual-duty adding protection and pulling the outfit together. The cadet visor she wore, keeps her skin protected and adds a dash of chicness to the overall look. The glasses offer eye protection and style. Her bag was both roomy enough to store all of this busy mom’s necessities, stylish enough to look like a grown-up bag, and convenient enough to throw over a shoulder cross-body style freeing her hands for other errands.

- TOM FORD Square-frame acetate sunglasses ($148.75)
- Furla Elisabeth Cross-body Shopper ($285)
- Alejandra Sky Keelson Cove Patch Cadet Hat ($31)
Shoes – When flats make your feet feel too close to the steaming concrete and sneakers are too hot to wear in the heat, opt out for a platform flip flop that is light on your feet and offers arch support.

Whether you’ll take one or all essentials from this military-chic inspiration, your playground outing is bound to get more enjoyable.
As for the dog, during this shoot, a nervous older couple approached us. They were searching for their lost terrier. Thinking ahead, we took their number in case the dog showed up. It did, about 15 minutes later, in the midst of our conversation. Without hesitation, Daniella sprung up, grabbed the leash-less dog with ease and stroked his fur until the owners reappeared.
While we are not sure whether it was the military training, our presence, or just that kind of day, to strengthen our case we are going to attribute finding the dog to the chicness of Daniella’s outfit.
