If the resort collections and runway shows were any indication, spring 2012 is bound to be filled with nail colors that are fresh and bold.
While certain trends have become a mainstay (think neutrals and pastels) others, like neons and pistachios, are fresh, new shades that instantly turn the eye to the smallest paint-able feature on your body.
This season’s nail polish trends present a wide range of shades, from subdued to in-your-face, making your options anything but boring. Take a break from the dark, vampy shades reminiscent of winter, and be inspired by brights, sparkles, and sheers.
Take a peek at our favorite fresh Spring 2012 nail polish trends:
Green may be hard for some to pull off, but this lighter shade is both cute and feminine at the same time. Nothing states “spring” more than a jovial shade of pistachio to warm up your finger tips.
Play up the perfect pistachio shade with this Essie ‘Navigate Her’ Nail Polish, $8. This RGB Cosmetics Nail Polish in Dew, $16, is another pistachio option. But, you will have to wait until March to get your hands (er, nails) on it. But who said delays are a bad thing? Think about its exclusivity once it does come on the market.
Sure, we agree—a neon dress or sweater can be hard to pull off (although not with the right neutral accessories!) However, if you are shy when it comes to day brights, try opting for a splash of neon on your nails.
This Dior ‘Vernis – Garden Party’ Nail Lacquer Forget-Me-Not, $23, is hard to say ‘no’ to. And if there’s anyone who knows neon, it’s Nicki Minaj. Find this bright green shade as part of the OPI Nicki Minaj Mini Lacquer, $9.99.
Sparkle polish made an appearance in our fall 2011 nail polish trends, and its staying power is undeniable. This time around, opt for bigger flakes of sparkle in your polish to keep it fresh.
This Nicole by OPI Nail Lacquer in “Fabulous” Is My Middle Name, $7, is the perfect example of this season’s sparkle and will be available February in Walmart. This Hunger Games China Glaze, Luxe & Lush, is bound to be all the rage, but low and behold, its entrance into the market is yet to be determined. Keep an eye out for this already popular line, and be sure to snag the Luxe & Lush to stay on-trend.
Think tropical fun when it comes to this trend. Oranges of all shades are all the rage, ranging from low-key shades (as seen below) to bright and poppy oranges. Not to mention, this trend is a fantastic alternative to your classic, cherry reds.
This Le Métier De Beauté Nail Lacquer in Not So Safe Orange isn’t available until late January, but keep checking Bergdorf Goodman for its release. This Chanel June Shade, $26, is muted and elegant. Play around with different oranges, and even try a gradual affect by playing up different shades, from light to dark, on each nail.
Sheer, chic, and oh-so swoon worthy, nothing says laid-back more than neutral shades of polish. Keep it simple and natural for the ultimate effect and let your choice of shades vary oh so slightly to truly stick with this trend.
This must have Orly Nail Lacquer in Prelude To A Kiss, $7.50, won’t be available until March but is worth the wait. This Sonia Kashuk Sugar Rush, $4.99, is a must-have shade for this neutral trend. The best news? It works amazingly with all skin shades.
Lastly, we looked to Derek Lam for a little inspiration and saw a myriad of pastel shades are all the rage. Think pinks, blues, greens, and oranges, and be wary of resembling an Easter egg— i.e., stick to one shade at a time.
You’ll have to wait until February to snag this Rococo Nail Apparel Nail Colour in T-Cup, $16.50. But by then, this Essie To Buy Or Not To Buy, will be available as well, right in time to swipe your nails with a bit of lavender charm.
