In an effort to expand her ever-growing empire, Vera Wang is diving into cosmetics, WWD reported this morning. The line will launch in April and have 74-piece color cosmetics collection. The line will include creams, makeup, and makeup brushes that will retail exclusively through Kohl’s. The prices will range from $16.50 to $39.50. Vera Wang will pair up with Beauty Bank, owned by Estee Lauder, which also owns brands like Good Skin, Flirt! Daisy Fuentes and Grassroots (also at Kohl’s).
Vera Wang will be adding the makeup line to her existing and extensive products line of Simply Vera at Kohl’s, that includes purses, apparel, jewelry, shoes, and home goods.
“It is an easy, light, modern and effortless approach to beauty and creativity. Like fashion, makeup is also transformational. I love the artistry of makeup to accentuate, enhance or create a mood for any time of day or occasion. A pop of color is such a gorgeous way to let your natural beauty shine through,” says Wang,
While the colors that we’ve seen are pretty, and the slick black packaging is clearly designed to make the line look more high-end, we didn’t see colors that stood out from similar products on the market. Also, as much as we love high-low collaborations, Simply Vera for Kohl’s just doesn’t have the coolness and upscale factor that the brand’s core lines Vera Wang and Vera Wang Lavender do. Of course perception is in the eye of a beholder.
